The more I study and personally practice positive psychology the more I want to complain about why it took me so long to figure this out. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Seriously, why are we not teaching this to every kid in the world as something equally important to basic life skills? I’ve now been working with a professional coach since February and am totally loving it. His number one gift to me thus far? Appreciation time outs, whereby my iPhone rings 6 times a day and I pause whatever I’m doing and reflect what I’m grateful for in my life at that moment. It’s simple and incredibly powerful for me, and equally powerful when I’m sharing these moments with my family and friends. It’s a sweet moment to pause and share your gratitude for a loved one…when s/he is actually in the room with you! (men: this is a hint…!)
